CONEJO VALLEY FAMILY GIVES BACK TO CANCER COMMUNITY
(Conejo Valley, CA) A local family did not expect cancer to enter their lives in 2001, but it did. With a diagnosis of esthesioneruoblastoma, Timothy and Lori Romig realized life would never be the same. The focus immediately shifted to Lori’s care and recovery, as well as the raising of their precious newborn daughter. Lori has been undergoing treatment off and on for six years and is currently in remission. The Romig’s felt grateful for the care and concern they received from the cancer community, and became determined to give back to those who had treated them so well. Together, they formed the “Track Rats” team in to participate in the Conejo Valley Relay for Life, an annual American Cancer Society fundraiser, helping to raise the funds so desperately needed for cancer research. The “Track Rats” will be among the thousands who will participate in this year’s event at 10:00am on Saturday, October 13th through Sunday, October 14th at Newbury Park High School in Newbury Park, CA.
Shortly after last year’s event, Timothy and his musician-cousin Andy hatched a plan to give voice to the stories of cancer, and to raise even more funds for cancer research. The result is “Songs of Hope – Stories of Courage”, a cd based on real life stories of the fight against cancer. While not all endings are happy, all songs speak to the amazing and enduring spirit people with this disease possess. There are 12 songs on the cd, and final production is just being completed. The cd is $10 and will be available for purchase at the Relay for Life event, at Handmade Galleries LA in Sherman Oaks, and via the website at www.songsforthecure.org. All proceeds will be donated to ACS Relay for Life.
