I'll See You There - Hack Andrews
(H. Andrews) (Vince Romanelli and H. Andrews) Copyright 2007

I was 18, flat broke with a guitar in my hands
I landed on your doorstep, wide-eyed, said “Hey man,”
“I need a job, a place to play, could you help me out?”
So for three months I filled the walls of that small-town restaurant
But when school rolled around I had to move on
I said, “There’s no need for long goodbyes, about this time next July,”
“I’m gonna be right back here with you.”

Where the mountains meet the sky
And the river scatters the light
Of a mid-day western-valley sun
Where the ghost of a summer breeze
Sways an ocean of evergreens
Where on the front porch sits a few wooden rocking chairs
I’ll see you there

It hit fast, blindside, heavy as a storm
But you kept your head held high, kept swinging hard, even with your back against the wall
With your family by your side, every day and every endless night
Just holding on to you (and I heard Joe say)
“I’m not one for long goodbyes, and I don’t know how, I don’t know why,”
“I just know, I’m gonna see you again.”

And don’t you worry about me
And I won’t worry about you
And one of these days

The Story Behind the Song

Written for my dear friend, Ernie Fognani who passed away just recently. For five or six summers during my high school and college years I played classical guitar at the restaurant that he and Joe Cordova owned and operated in Cuchara, CO. “The Timbers” was my second home, and Ernie, Joe and their seemingly endless number of relatives and friends became my second family. Some of my most cherished memories take me back to those summers in the mountains, just hanging out after work, laughing into the night. Ernie was somewhat shy and reserved, but he never missed an opportunity to give you a hard time and make you smile (right when you needed it most!). Maybe what I admired, above all else, was that Ernie would do anything and everything for the people he cared about, without question and without hesitation.

And while I’ve never really ironed out a stance on the whole heaven issue, I can imagine it would be something like Cuchara in late summer/early fall, with the people I love by my side. We’ll miss you Ernie!

Hack Andrews grew up on a llama ranch in the small mountain town of Carbondale, CO. He began studying bluegrass guitar and classical piano at age seven and classical guitar at 11. Although his family moved to La Veta, CO (pop. 800) his junior year of high school, Hacks’s parents continued to make the seven-hour round trip to Denver twice a month so Hack could study with world-renowned guitar virtuoso Ricardo Iznaola. By the time Hack graduated high school he had decided that manual labor was not really his thing, and, after four years and a BM degree in Classical Guitar performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder, formed the folk-rock band, Acoustic Radio. After touring with Acoustic Radio for several years, Hack left the band, dropped out of CU’s Master of Music program and moved to Nashville, TN in 2006 to develop his songwriting.

Hack has won several major competitions, including the National Foundation For Advancement in the Arts (NFAA), two full scholarships to attend the Aspen Music School, The Music Teacher’s National Assocaition (MTNA) competition (state and regional), the Stars of Tomorrow Talent show and many others. He is currently in the studio working on his newest album to be released in November, 2007, with spring 2008 tour dates to follow, so please check back!!!

In the mean time, Acoustic Radio, “Staring at the Celing” can be purchased at
