I Sing To Emily - Jamie Floyd
(J. Floyd, Stan Karcz, Billy Davidson) Copyright 2006

I sing to Emily on Saturdays
Under and old oak tree with plenty of shade
See I walk her down in her wheelchair
From the 2nd floor into crisp, clean air

And I sing, “In My Mind I’m Going To Carolina”
‘Cause that’s become her favorite lullaby
And when she sings, “Can you feel the sunshine?”
That’s when I know the chemo is off her mind
I fight back every tear that says this world can be so mean
I know I’m no good at miracles but I can sing to Emily

The doctors say that she’s real strong
And hope this time that they got it all
They pull me aside and say how much it means
Oh but they don’t know she’s healing me

I know God listens and I know he ain’t blind
So maybe he could put a blessing in a rhyme

The Story Behind the Song

The song was inspired by a beautiful young girl named Emily Daniels. I met Emily and her parents at Magnum’s Restaurant, Lombard IL. Lisa and Andy Daniels introduced Emily to me at the Piano. I would play Piano and Emily would just watch me play songs and smile. I was so touched by her kind and gentle spirit. One day I met Andy Daniels (Father) and he told me she had some additional health problems and are hopeful that she will improve. There was a moment when I looked in his eyes and felt an overwhelming spirit resonate from Emily’s Dad. As a Father myself I was filled with a desire to do something in addition to my prayers. I shared the story with two co-writers, Jamie Floyd and Billy Davidson. I said that I want to write a song For Emily because she is a special girl that I have adopted in my heart. The result was the birth of the song of a touching heartfelt piece of music called “I Sing to Emily”.

Jamie Floyd - Country Blues singer/songwriter Jamie Floyd, 22, possesses that unforgettable stand-out-in-a-crowd kind of authenticity--a soulful, sincere believability. She's been surrounded by music since before she could talk. Raised by two professional musician parents, she grew up witnessing the ups and the downs that come along with living the lifestyle of an entertainer. She began to join her parents, singing in numerous country clubs throughout south Florida starting when she was just 2 years old. From there she went on to play virtually every major fair and festival along Florida's East coast beginning in 1995. Jamie was also a regular National Anthem singer for Major League Baseball's Spring Training and sang for crowds of 25,000+ in major sports stadiums including the American Airlines Arena and Pro-Player Stadium. Her talent along with her down-to-earth approachability soon earned her incredible opportunities to open shows for some of music's most talented artists including: James Taylor, Rascal Flatts, Mark Wills and Neal McCoy. Major players in the Nashville industry have already taken notice. At age 13, she signed her first publishing and production deal (2000-2003) with Ric Wake, Senior VP of A&R, Epic/Sony. Since then she's worked with some of Nashville's most successful artists, writers and musicians. Today she continues to play the Nashville area music scene, while being in the studio and writing as much as possible. Undeniably possessing the 'it' factor, she is a young woman with an old soul and a sincere love for making music. She says, "Making music is something that is so precious to me--its fulfilling, energizing, and especially therapeutic! Most of all, I see it as such a gift to be able to share something that means so much to me with an audience. I want people to walk away from my music affected."

Stan Karcz - Songwriter has no reservations about revealing his heart through his songs and performance. In the finest tradition of the pop/country troubadour the timbre of his soul shines through his music. Growing up in Chicago, a first generation American, Stan's musical inclinations were evident at an early age. His family -- immigrants from Poland -- were ardent supporters of his musicality. Beginning with the accordion, he soon progressed to clarinet, tenor sax, and ultimately, the piano. Stan honed his keyboard craft through private study and at the Sherwood Music Conservatory and the Bloom School of Jazz.

Now, he is taking his love for music, his leadership, his organizational skills, his problem solving and his dedicated professionalism into his new position as President of Defy The Odds Entertainment Group LLC, an entertainment company for which he is a co-founder. Although a relatively new face in Nashville publishing circles, Defy The Odds Entertainment Group LLC has been embraced by Music Producers, A&R Representatives and Artists. DTO Publishing, a division of Defy the Odds Entertainment Group LLC, was established in 2006 by Stan Karcz and industry veteran Brian Barnett.

Defy The Odds Entertainment Group LLC currently has songs on-hold for artists such as Selah, Minnie Murphy (Montage Records) and Amy Gearing (Curb Records). My Heart Belongs to You is on hold with Minnie Murphy, Montage Records, Nashville TN. In The Footsteps Of Jesus, Selah, Curb Records, Nashville TN. My Wish List, Amy Gearing, Curb Records.
