The Story of how it all began.
In the fall of 2001, shortly after my wife gave birth to our daughter, she had a nasal polyp surgically removed. When we returned to the doctor for her follow up appointment we were informed that it was not a polyp, but instead a rare form of cancer called esthesioneruoblastoma. I can still remember the feeling and the weight of those words. It was as if a mule had kicked me in the chest, and it was a feeling that did not pass anytime soon. I had always heard the term heartache, but it was not until this moment, and many moments still to come, that I came to understand that the heart could physically hurt with no physical event.
We have been fighting this cancer since then. Lori has been incredibly strong and brave, facing a number of treatments, including surgeries, chemo and radiation. The prognosis is good. We continue to live our life to the fullest, and to thumb our noses at the dark cloud that has followed us for years.
Throughout all of this we have learned the value of family and friends. If this had never happened we might never have learned how blessed we are to have a wealth of loving people supporting us, sending us kind thoughts and performing kind deeds. We will never be able to show any one of you how, let alone all of you, how much you mean to us. Suffice it to say, Thank You.
One of those people who supported us with kind thoughts and deeds was my cousin. Andy is a wonderful singer, songwriter and musician and a phenomenal guitar player. During our first round of this fight he wrote and recorded "Lori's Song" for us. It was a touching gesture, and one that I will always remember. Ever since he gave us the song, I have wished for the world to hear it.
In 2006, we decided to try to begin to give back to the cancer community that had treated us so well, and had provided us with support when we needed it. We formed a team for the ACS Relay for Life and raised over $10,000 for the ACS. Shortly after last year's event I spoke to Andy and we hatched a plan. We decided to put together a benefit album for the 2007 Relay for Life. The album would be based on real life stories of the fight against cancer. While not all endings are happy, all speak to the amazing and enduring spirit people with this disease possess.
Andy has collaborated with a number of talented and giving artists in Nashville to create these --
Songs of Hope, Stories of courage.
And of course, Lori's Song is here, for the world to hear.
Thank You,
Timothy
